A Canadian food-service and packaging company took home the bronze at the Fruit Logistica Innovation Awards in Berlin, Germany this year.

CKF, Inc. was nominated for their top-sealable, compostable and wood pulp tray for 350 to 400 grams of strawberries. The company was the only North American entry to make the shortlist of ten nominees.

“It was an excellent fair, including great exposure for CKF and our Earthcycle Brand,” says Ian Anderson, president of CKF in a press release. “It was particularly exciting to win the bronze award… The show was a great success for us, we look forward to serving our growing global customer base.”

According to the organizers of the Canadian pavilion, Canada has had a growing presence at the show over the last few years. Key stakeholders who represented the country’s delegation this year included the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), the Fruit & Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation (DRC), Air Canada Cargo, Province of British Columbia (BC), Prince Edward Island Potatoes (PEI) and CFK, Inc.

From producer to retailer, Fruit Logistica brought in members from the entire value chain and saw over 3,200 exhibitors on display. Through their presence, Canadian representatives were able to meet both current and prospective buyers, showcasing the Canadian produce industry.

“Having Canada grow in size at the show is key to help[ing] the global fresh produce industry see the potential Canada has in the sector – not only in providing various commodities but also as an innovator in technology and solutions across all aspects in the fresh produce and wider agriculture supply chain,” says Richie Santosdiaz, one of the organizers of the Canadian pavilion, who hopes to see more Canadians take part in Berlin for 2020.
