CAST 2022 – Day 1: Ball & Green Fuse
10 new varietal highlights from day 1 of the California Spring Trials 2022.
April 4, 2022 By Greenhouse Canada
After a brief sojourn into the summer last year, the California Spring Trials (CAST) returned to their pre-pandemic spot this spring. Also returning to CAST was University of Guelph garden trial manager, Rodger Tschanz, who took on double duty as Greenhouse Canada’s travelling correspondent.
Travelling with the Ball Seed team over the course of four days, Tschanz asked representatives from breeders and seed companies to highlight some of their favourite new releases for 2023. The first two stops on the itinerary were Ball Horticultural Co. and Green Fuse Botanicals. With the Canadian market and climate in mind, here were their top introductions below:
Falling in Love Rosie – Ball Ingenuity – Joan Mazat
I Love U Dianthus – Selecta North America – Tanya Carvalho
AngelDance Angelonia – Ball FloraPlant – Tanya Carvalho
Beacon Impatiens – PanAmerican Seed – Jeff Gibson
Solarscape Impatiens – PanAmerican Seed – Felicia Vandervelde
Siam Tomato Kitchen Minis – PanAmerican Seed – Felicia Vandervelde
Primavera Spanish Lavender – Darwin Perennials – Chris Fifo
Red Lark Delphinium – Darwin Perennials – Chris Fifo
Echinacea Sombrero & Sombrero Poco – Darwin Perennials – Chris Fifo
Dianthus Constant Cadence Potpourri – Green Fuse Botanicals – Jim Devereux
Stay tuned for next week’s highlights from Day 2 on the road at CAST 2022.
Thank you to Ball Seed for graciously providing on-the-ground transport and all around good company on their bus tour.
