The greenhouse allows students to test low energy, renewable approaches to growing - including solar heating, water collection and composting - and see sustainable production in action at the school's Brandon, Man., campus.
According to the Brandon Sun:
"The $1.3 million project includes 1,300 square feet of solar greenhouse, along with another 1,300 square feet of conventional greenhouse and enables both agricultural experiments and research as well as growing local produce for the college's culinary arts program."
The greenhouse serves as a model business enterprise while addressing the need for applied research on local food production.
Manitoba premier Greg Selinger, ACC president Mark Frison and ACC academic vice-president Jack Moes will all be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning.
