Windsor-Essex unpauses temporary foreign worker arrival

January 15, 2022  By Greenhouse Canada

Windsor-Essex County has rescinded their instructions to halt the arrival of temporary foreign workers.

Earlier in the week, the region’s public health unit had issued a letter to owners and operators in the region who were taking part in the temporary foreign workers program, instructing them to cancel, suspend, or postpone the arrival of workers for three weeks. This was in response to rapidly increasing rates of infection and spread in congregate settings. Isolation resources were said to be ” full and spilling over into community hotel rooms.”

In a statement released yesterday evening, the region’s public health unit says they were able to come up with a resolution by collaborating with different levels of government as well as local community leaders.

“With the concerted efforts of local leaders in the healthcare, housing, and social service community the region collectively was able to establish the level of support necessary to meet isolation requirements for workers who are sick or who have been exposed,” according to the release.
