Headlands Garden Plants has been named recipient of the 2018 Grower of the Year Award by the BC Landscape and Nursery Association (BCLNA).

Based in Chilliwack, Headlands Garden Plants has been a supplier to retail garden centres since 2003, and a consistent provider of high-quality herbs. Their brand “Fragro” has set them apart from other herb growers, containing over 80 different edible plants, and grown under biological and organic-approved pest-control methods.

True environmental stewards, Headlands reduces the number of truck loads as much as possible, combining loads going out to customers to minimize their carbon footprint. Their distinctive terracotta coloured plant trays are collected back from the customers to reduce the amount of waste generated.

Passionate about the consumer experience and education, Headlands gives talks to customers on how to grow and use herbs. Their website provides tips to the consumer on how to use their products for cooking or other applications.

Owners, Stephen and Julie, are also active members in the industry. In addition to attending BCLNA events and contributing to the betterment of the industry as a whole, they work with their customers to improve merchandising and give seminars at retailers’ location on selling techniques used by retail sales staff.

Each year, the BCLNA award recognizes one nursery grower or production nursery who has demonstrated innovative best practices, exemplary standards of excellence and made significant contributions to the horticultural industry.
