The Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) has convened a group of experts to develop draft guidance on biosecurity for greenhouse robots/ automation, and is looking for jnput on the first draft of a new technical specificiation.

“Greenhouse production involves a unique set of challenges, particularly when it comes to managing the health and quality of the crops within this controlled environment. To address these challenges, the implementation of robust greenhouse biosecurity measures is imperative,” CSA officials said. “This technical specification takes into account the interactions between robots, plants, and people, as well as the potential pathways for pest and disease transmission within the greenhouse. As greenhouses increasingly adopt robotic/automated technology for a variety of production tasks, there are new biosecurity risks to consider that have not specifically been incorporated into existing voluntary biosecurity protocols.”
