Ancaster LP goes to potted mums

City council denied an application in July from federally licensed grower The Green Organic Dutchman to build a 130,000-square-foot greenhouse for medical marijuana on Jerseyville Road in Ancaster. City planners had recommended the project despite a bylaw size limit of 24,000 square feet for rural pot production.
Now, the company has successfully applied to the city building department for permission to construct the same large greenhouse for “potted mums” instead of medical marijuana — for now, anyway.
The move allows the company to forge ahead with its planned construction schedule as it seeks a reversal of council’s pot project denial — whether through the provincial Local Planning Appeal Tribunal or a change of heart by a newly elected city council in October. | READ MORE
