Alberta expands Leduc’s food manufacturing centre

December 5, 2023  By Greenhouse Canada

Dec. 5, 2023 – Alberta is investing in its food manufacturing industry, which accounted for more than $22.7 billion in exports in 2022, more than 20 per cent of the total provincial manufacturing sales.

The government’s most recent initiative to maintain growth levels is the expansion of the Leduc food centre’s Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator (APBI) by 2,300 square metres.

Established in 2007, the APBI is designed to “help small businesses prepare products for sale within Canada and around the world by providing them with the tools they need to meet federal food regulation requirements.”

Pre-renovation, the area was able to support seven businesses at a time. Once renovations are completed, up to nine companies can now lease a food processing suite and access product development support, business services and shared staff amenities.
