Website pinpoints Niagara-grown flower farm stands

April 1, 2020  By Greta Chiu

Ornamental growers selling directly to consumers now have another way of spreading the word.

‘Niagara Grown’ is a non-profit website that helps consumers find local flower growers with farm stands located between Niagara-on-the-Lake and Hamilton. Each listing includes the location, crops grown, methods of pick-up, links to website and social media, as well as a brief description of each operation.

“With the current global pandemic, many stores in Canada and the U.S. are cancelling flower orders. Local growers are seeing sale losses of 60 to 100 per cent. Many of them will go under without our support,” according to the website.

By highlighting local flower production, site organizers hope to support thousands of staff employed at flower farms in Ontario while promoting feelings of positivity among the public.

“Being around flowers and ornamental plants has been shown to decrease stress and increase workplace productivity,” the website states. “…it’s time to bring a smile to friends and family members by having flowers delivered, or dropped on their doorstep from a safe distance.”

Niagara Grown will also post images from growers and promote widely to their followers via their social media channels, including Instagram and Facebook.
