Aug. 27, 2014, Zeeland, MI  – Walters Gardens earned this year’s Grower Award from the Perennial Plant Association (PPA).

This award is presented to one PPA member each year in recognition of being a grower who holds high standards of production, maintains high quality plants, and seeks innovation while respecting the requirements of the perennial industry.

The Perennial Plant Association offers awards to individuals and/or businesses for significant contributions to the Perennial Plant Association and the herbaceous perennial plant industry.

The membership is solicited for nominations for these awards. The Special Awards Selection Committee then reviews the nominations and makes final selections.

“We are incredibly honoured to receive the Grower Award from such a worthy organization and are humbled that our peers nominated us for this award,” said Susan Martin, director of Marketing Communications and company representative for the Perennial Plant Association.

“Our industry is unique in that our competitors are also our friends and sometimes our customers. That kind of camaraderie is not something you find often outside of the plant business.”

Martin and Jeremy Windemuller, trial manager for Walters Gardens, were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the company at the 32nd annual Perennial Plant Symposium in Cincinnati.

ABOUT WALTERS GARDENS

Walters Gardens has grown from a small farm of less than five acres worked by just a handful of people to a multi-million dollar corporation with over 200 employees, 1,500 acres of land, and 500,000 square feet of greenhouse space.

Over 15 million perennial liners are shipped annually to independent garden centres, wholesale growers, landscapers, and municipalities across the U.S. and Canada.

Each year, approximately 100 new items are added to the catalogue of over 1,000 bare-root and plug perennial liners.
