Retail garden sales continued to gain in August

Oct. 28, 2013, Ottawa — Sales at garden equipment and supply dealers rose in August, increasing for the third time in four months according to new data from Statistics Canada.

The 1.1 per cent sales increase reported by building material and garden equipment and supply dealers beat overall figures for the month. Total retail sales edged up 0.2 per cent in August to $40.3 billion.

Statistics Canada reported gains in six of the 11 sub-sectors it tracks. These sectors represent 56 per cent of total retail trail.

In volume terms, sales also rose 2.0 per cent.
