john_holmesFeb. 13, 2009, Columbus, OH – John R. Holmes, age 45, chief executive officer of OFA – an Association of Floriculture Professionals, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, February 12.

“We are deeply saddened by John’s sudden passing. He was a great friend and a remarkable leader. The association is stronger because of his efforts,” said OFA president Bobby Barnitz. “Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family, friends, and beloved staff during this difficult time.”

Mr. Holmes was hired by OFA in February 2002. A lifelong Hoosier, he was raised in a family dedicated to public service and helping others. He later spent several years with the Indiana Health Care Association. Before joining OFA, Mr. Holmes was the executive director of the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.

“While John’s presence will be missed, your board of directors is committed to ensuring the organization continues to meet the needs of our stakeholders and management partners, said Barnitz. "John made sure the organization had a strong infrastructure in place to survive challenging times.”

Mr. Holmes received his BA in Political Science from Purdue University and a law degree from Indiana University. Licensed to practice law in Indiana, Mr. Holmes was certified in association management by both the American Society of Association Executives and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
