July 2, 2014, Leamington, Ont. — A record number of representatives from the greenhouse industry gathered at De Ruiter's Demo Days in their Leamington trial greenhouse for an up-close look at the De Ruiter tomato, pepper and cucumber portfolio of products.

"The whole De Ruiter Team – from genetic analysts and breeders to sales and trade partnership – were thrilled to host an event that enabled so much positive dialogue with our customers," said Thijs Peekstok, De Ruiter's product and marketing manager.

"The feedback we received from growers is very valuable as De Ruiter thinks about the future."

The event was followed by a dinner at the Mastronardi winery.

During the dinner Margaret Ingratta, De Ruiter's leading researcher for the Leamington greenhouse industry, explained the importance of partnering with growers.

"The De Ruiter goal is to bring to market superior varieties for the greenhouse industry. We are successful only when growers find our material an important component to their own success," said Ingratta.

TRIALING IS SO IMPORTANT

"That is why the trialing we do with growers is so important. We know the commitment growers make when they decide to trial a new variety. We provide trial material only after the variety has proven to have the necessary yield, fruit size and fruit quality."

"When we are confident that the variety has potential to be competitive in the market, we search for growers willing to do external trials in their commercial areas. We then have regular communication with these growers to monitor a variety's progress in different growing environments."

Monsanto's Vegetable Seeds Division is represented through Seminis® and De Ruiter® seed brands.
