Open houses for new variety trials

• First, check out the annual Trial Gardens open house this Friday (Aug. 17) hosted by Landscape Ontario and the University of Guelph.

The program begins at 9 a.m. at the Landscape Ontario grounds in Milton, continuing to noon. Included will be a short speaker program followed by a trial garden tour. Speaker topics include “Ash Tree Alternatives for Ontario” and “Roses for the 21st Century Landscape.”

The program then moves to the Guelph Turfgrass Institute trial gardens of the University of Guelph from 1 to 3 p.m.

• There will also be a grower open house on Aug. 21, from 10 to 3, to view the vegetative annual cultivars trial at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.
