Nuffield Scholarships accepting applications
Up to five scholarships of $15,000 each are being offered to Canadians involved in agriculture and agribusiness.
These scholarships will allow successful applicants to travel the world, meet industry leaders and gain experiences not normally open to the public. It’s a chance to expand their knowledge on industry challenges, pursue new ideas and share their findings with others for the betterment of Canadian agriculture.
Nuffield Canada investors will provide four named scholarships for 2019:
- Glacier Farm Media is supporting a general interest scholarship
- The Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding individual involved in the Ontario grain industry whose study shows direct benefit to the Ontario grain sector
- The Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF) scholarship is available to scholars directly involved in the Western Canadian field crop sector, preferably a producer, or an individual actively involved in the sector through extension or research whose research topic will focus on the field crop sector
-The Alberta Wheat Commission scholarship is available to an Alberta resident involved in the Western Canadian grain sector, directly connected to primary grain production; research topics will focus on studies that benefit the wheat sector.
Applicants should be in mid-career, preferably between the ages of 25 and 45 with a minimum of five years of agricultural business or farming experience and the ability to travel for a minimum of 10 weeks, with at least six consecutive weeks in one leg of their journey. Scholars must complete their project within two years of being awarded, producing a written report and presenting their findings at the Nuffield Canada AGM.
"Nuffield Canada Agricultural Scholarships provide innovative Canadians with the opportunity to travel internationally to expand their personal horizons while exploring agricultural issues and opportunities in a global context," said Ian McPhadden, Nuffield Canada Scholar and Chair. "Our focus is on the development of leadership capacity for Canadian agriculture through scholars who have access to the best production, management and marketing systems in the world.”
At different times during their two year scholarship, they also will interact with other scholars from countries including the US, Britain, Ireland, France, New Zealand, Australia, Holland, Brazil, China, India, and various places in Africa.
Deadline for applications is April 30, 2018. Application forms and more information can be found at www.nuffield.ca
