The Niagara Parks School of Horticulture is pleased to announce that on September 25 and 26 they will host the Niagara region Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT) test. The CHT designation provides individuals in the lawn and garden industry with a means of proving a standard of expertise. It's a national designation, with recognition across North America. Evaluation and designation is available for hardscape installation, softscape installation, ornamental maintenance, turf maintenance, retail and interiorscape.
The two day testing includes a series of written evaluations designed to measure overall comprehension of the trade along with practical evaluations that measure an individual's level of competence through timed, hands-on exercises at a series of stations. The candidate is required to successfully perform a specific task within a timed period in the presence of a qualified industry judge. Members of the public are welcome to visit the gardens and observe the demonstrations, although as this is a test situation, access will be limited to certain stations.

All levels of the industry participate in the CHT evaluation. From High School students who are in the Specialist High Skills Major program for Horticulture, and their teachers who form the Horticulture of Ontario Teachers Association (HOSTA), to new hires to veteran landscapers.
The Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture is located at 2565 Niagara Parkway North, Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Niagara Parks Commission is an agency of the Ministry of Tourism that has operated at no cost to taxpayers since 1885.
