Dec. 16, 2013, Leamington, Ont. — Funeral services will be held this morning for Leamington greenhouse grower and alternative fuels innovator Dean Tiessen.

Mr. Tiessen, 46, president of New Energy Farms, was on a business trip in Brazil earlier this month with friend and colleague Paul Carver, CEO of New Energy Farms. The two were driving along a highway when they came upon an attempted cargo robbery. The robbery suspects ordered the pair out of their rental car, but for reasons still unknown, shot Mr. Tiessen.

Mr. Tiessen is the husband of Jennifer (Lehn), and father of Julianne, Rachelle, Josh and Cian.

Mr. Tiessen is the son of William and Janet Tiessen and son-in-law of Barbara and Ralph Phibbs and Paul Lehn. He is the brother of Jason and Josey Tiessen, and brother-in-law of Karen and Dennis Driedger, Todd and Joan Phibbs, Stacey and Scott Wilkins, and Melissa Lehn. He is the grandson of Jessie Toews.

Mr. Tiessen will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins, along with many industry colleagues across Canada.

Today’s funeral service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held at Leamington United Mennonite Church, 78 Oak Street East at 11 a.m. Pastor David Dyck is officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made by cheque to Southwestern Ontario Gleaners (Leamington), Canadian Foodgrains Bank or the charity of your choice. Friends may share memories at www.reidfuneralhome.ca.
