Oct. 28, 2015, Toronto — Donisha Prendergast, granddaughter of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley, will host an intimate evening, sponsored by Tweed, celebrating the commitment and contributions of six remarkable women who are pioneers of the medical cannabis movement and industry in Canada.
These women have worked tirelessly to advocate for patients and educate policy makers, physicians and the public about medical cannabis.
The celebrating is being held tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 28) at the Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street West, Toronto. Doors open at 6, with the program held from 7 to 9.
Taking part will be:
• Hilary Black, founder of the British Columbia Compassion Club Society (BCCCS), and director of patient and community services at Bedrocan Canada.
• Theresa Kozak, manager of Better by Tweed, overseeing the operations of three community-based cannabis resource centres located throughout southwestern Ontario.
• Jenna Valleriani, PhD candidate, at the University of Toronto in sociology and the Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies, and vice-president of Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy.
• Erin Prosk, co-founder of Santé Cannabis, whose mission is to re-integrate cannabis into the practice of medicine and pharmacy.
• Mandy McKnight, “accidental activist” for safe access to medical cannabis, whose seven-year-old son Liam, one of the youngest patients authorized under the MMPR, uses cannabis to control seizures caused by an intractable form of pediatric epilepsy.
• Lisa Campbell, outreach director for Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy since 2013 and the founder of Women Grow Toronto.
• Donisha Prendergast, filmmaker and human rights activist, and also acts as the youth voice for the Marley Family.
