July 18, 2013, Brantford, Ont. — Myers Industries Inc.’s Lawn & Garden Group today announced the second phase of its restructuring which will include the closure of its Brantford plant.
Approximately 250 employees will be affected by this action.
Myers Industries will continue to serve the Canadian market and will retain a customer service presence in Ontario to support the market and ensure a seamless transition.
The Myers Industries location in nearby Burlington will not be closed.
“The decision to close our Brantford operation is in no way a reflection of the efforts of the employees, but a result of the economics we face in our industry,” said Brantford plant manager John Bielby.
The company says it will make every effort to help employees affected by the closure.
The company is also closing its plant in Waco, Texas. Approximately 75
employees will be affected by this action. A number of them will
transfer to remaining Myers Industries Lawn & Garden Group
“The Waco team has made progress in its ability to
competitively service the market, but has been disadvantaged by its
geographic location in relationship to the customers,” said plant
manager Robert Burkhart.
The Myers Industries Lawn & Garden Group specializes in products for professional growers, grower distributors, retail garden centres, and mass merchandisers in the greenhouse, nursery and consumer markets.
