Metrolina Greenhouses has donated more than $1 million to local charities and community initiatives in 2024.

In a recent release, the greenhouse operation, with two locations in the U.S., announced reaching the milestone in addition to their $750,000 regular charitable donations.

The greenhouses’ 2024 giving efforts include: $100,000 for Hurricane Helene relief efforts, $70,000 in college scholarships and $100,000 for financial assistance to employees facing personal challenges through their Benevolent Fund and the Community Outreach Committee – a volunteer employee group.

Metrolina has also extended its support in non-monetary donations by helping one of their partner growers in Western North Carolina, when they were severely impacted by flood waters from Hurricane Helene. The company stepped in to grow and ship 100,000 poinsettias free of charge.

“Everybody here helped with that in one way or another,” said Art VanWingerden, co-CEO.

“Whether you grew, spaced or shipped them, no matter what you did, everybody helps, and we can take pride in knowing that we helped another greenhouse get through this.”

Many Metrolina employees donated their time, resources and funds, while others travelled to hurricane-affected areas to assist friends and family with recovery efforts.

“Metrolina is more than a greenhouse – we’re a team rooted in compassion and committed to our community. We are grateful to our dedicated employees who helped make these initiatives possible,” said Abe VanWingerden, co-CEO.
