John Stanley to speak at Farwest

April 16, 2014  By Canadian Garden Centre & Nursery

Apr. 17, 2014, Wilsonville, OR — Renowned horticulture industry expert John Stanley will bring his insight and perspective to the 2014 Farwest Trade Show.

On Aug. 21, Stanley will deliver the keynote address Don't Serve Me… Make My Day, shedding light on an industry that is changing rapidly. What has worked in the past will not work in the future as the whole structure evolves. His speech will focus on the issues that horticultural businesses need to address in the coming months and years in order to grow sales. Attendance is free for all Farwest show registrants.

Stanley will also conduct a three-hour workshop called Garden Retailing… Getting to 2020 on Aug. 22. The workshop will highlight key elements that can make a difference to garden retail. Stanley will look at how merchandising and display strategies in independent garden centres have to change in the next few years if the sector is to grow.

"I'm thrilled to have a role at Farwest this year," said Stanley. "My perspective allows me to help the industry from as small as a one person business upwards. I particularly enjoy helping family businesses grow and prosper. In my global work I see emerging trends. Sharing my ideas on how to maximize those trends with the Farwest audience will be exciting and rewarding for all."

Ahead of Farwest, Stanley will facilitate a two-day New Vision Forum with Sid Raisch of Horticultural Advantage, from Aug. 20 to 21. The New Vision Forum is a traveling, intensive round-table event hosted by AmericanHort to explore new directions, trends and technologies in garden retail. Participants will discover ways to meet emerging business challenges and master the possibilities presented by the new economy. Separate registration is required for the New Vision Forum.
