Home renovation tax credit a bonus for homeowners and retailers

Feb. 6, 2009 – With a new show focus on home economics, exhibitors at the 21st annual International Home & Garden Show, running March 19 to 22 at the International Centre have another reason to look forward to the event, which annually draws more than 50,000 consumers during its four day run.

“I’m confident that the government’s new home renovation tax credit will induce more homeowners to spruce up their homes, and do it now,” says show manager, Paul Newdick.  “As event producers, we’re pleased that not only the home renovations industry at large, but our exhibitors and the thousands who shop the show will benefit from this incentive.”
 
With 400 exhibits, the International Home & Garden Show is one of the largest home and garden shows in Canada.  Its exhibitor base includes retailers of doors, windows, window coverings, flooring, HVAC, kitchen and bath, fencing, security systems, and energy efficient products; as well as builders, renovators and landscapers – expenses which, under the new legislation, are eligible for the government rebate.
 
To help consumers make the right decisions about where to spend hard earned home improvement dollars, the event hosts experts who can help consumers maximize their budget.  Alison Griffiths, host of W’s Maxed Out and a new show on W and Viva, Dollars and Cents will help consumers clarify where the money goes and how to prioritize expenditures.  Jay Purvis and Neil Davies of the new HGTV show, The Fix supply the advice on what to look for in a competent home renovations contractor.   Yvonne Williams who runs an all-female home improvement company has tips on how to save money by tackling home projects yourself.
 
The International Home & Garden Show runs Thursday, March 19th through Sunday, March 22nd at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road.
