Garden retailers lost ground in November

Jan. 27, 2014, Ottawa — Retail sales at garden equipment and supply dealers dipped in November 2013, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada.

Sales at building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers were down 1.5 per cent, marking the second consecutive month of decline for this sector.

Overall retail sales rose in November, totaling $41 billion. This marks the fourth increase in overall retail trade over the last five months.

Nine of the 11 subsectors Statistics Canada tracks experienced gains, owing in large part to winter weather and new product releases timed to coincide with the holiday shopping season.
