Degel to speak at IGC East

April 23, 2014  By Canadian Garden Centre & Nursery

willie_degel_head_shotApr. 24, 2014, National Harbor, MD — Willie Degel, renowned restaurateur and star of Restaurant Stakeout, will give independent garden retailers a customer service wake-up call during his keynote at IGC East.

Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at Degel's proven strategies for instilling a consistent culture of service excellence that yields returns in customer loyalty and long-term sales success.

How do independent garden centres provide the customer service that's critical in setting their stores apart from the boxes to draw new customers and assure repeat business? Round-the-clock scrutiny of staff performance is the key, Degel says.

As the owner of Uncle Jack's Steakhouse, with three locations in New York City, Degel canvasses his restaurants with hidden cameras to keep an eye on his staff's performance. During the popular Food Network series Restaurant Stakeout, he takes the cameras on the road and shows challenged restaurants how their employees act when management isn't in sight, and how it affects the way their customers see their businesses. What he finds will jolt any garden centre owner to action.

"I had the chance to meet Willie in New York City over lunch, and I know his brand of matter-of-fact advice will strike a chord with our IGC East audience, said Jeff Morey, founder of the IGC Show. "His years of hands-on experience building his restaurant empire will give our audience an authentic, no-holds-barred take on the customer service they need to succeed today, no matter the size of their competition."

Additional keynotes for IGC East and IGC Chicago will be announced soon.

IGC East will debut Aug. 5 to 7 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Centre complex in National Harbor, Mld.

Two weeks later, from Aug. 19 to 21, IGC Chicago will take place at Navy Pier.
