Consumers dig deeper for dad

June 17, 2013  By Canadian Garden Centre & Nursery

June 17, 2013, Toronto — Canadians dug deeper into their wallets for
Father's Day this year, but spending to spoil dad fell short of Mother's
Day spending.

The results of the Father's Day Survey, conducted by BMO Bank of
Montreal, found that 94 per cent of Canadians who planned to celebrate
dad this year were looking to spend an average of $95 – up from $86 in
2012. This is 12 per cent less than the average $107 spent last month on
Mother's Day.

The survey also found that sons planned to spend
40 per cent more than daughters on Father's Day, so marketing messages
that appeal to male clientele could pull in higher sales around Father's
Day.
