Ball continues to focus efforts on researching the end consumer and
determining what drives their purchase decisions. “Focusing on what
your customer is really looking for will be even more important this
year,” says Diane Hund, Director of Marketing for Ball Horticultural
Company. “Color has always been the number one factor in what people
purchase.”

Purple, Purple, Purple! – It is a well-established
trend that surfaced as a hot fashion color last fall. Purple Flash
Ornamental Pepper from Ball has striking flashes of bright purple
foliage among the dark leaves that contrast well with small, glossy
black fruit. These heat-tolerant plants are great for mixed containers
and in-ground plantings.

Vibrant Shades of Yellow – Pantone, which provides
color standards to design industries, specifically cites “mimosa” as
its top shade of the New Year. Lucky™ Pot of Gold Lantana has a unique
compact habit that makes this item a top choice for small pots, baskets
and mixed containers. Lucky’s gold tones will give gardeners energy
throughout the season.

Citrus Blends – Bright accents in citrus tones such
as orange and yellow are in the forecast for 2009. Matrix® Citrus Mix
Pansy will brighten up your retail displays for the Spring with a
colorful mix of Orange, White and Yellow. Matrix delivers consistent
branching and uniform flowering across the entire series. Move over
pastels, bright rays of sunshine are coming to town!
