BC releases provincial guidelines for TFW employers

The BC Ministry of Agriculture released provincial guidelines for employers of temporary foreign workers this week.

The document contains specific steps that farms must follow to address COVID-19. This includes a workplace risk assessment, employee education, proper hygiene and cleaning, as well as physical distancing measures while working, in transit, and in common areas. Housing guidelines are provided as well.

Employers must also satisfy federal guidelines, available here.

WALI rolls out HUB Connect
BC growers will also find many resources available on the Western Agricultural Labour Initiative (WALI) website , including new the HUB Connect App for workers, containing information on regional services such as health care providers, transportation services, local news and weather, consular information and important contacts, in addition to agriculture specific guidelines.

WALI also sent out an update on temporary foreign workers.

  • Booking travel:
    Anyone booking travel with Mi Tierra Holidays must submit a release form prior to travel arrangements being made. The WALI acknowledgement and release form can be found on the WALI COVID-19 webpage (click to view).
  • For anyone who has previously booked flights:
    Mi Tierra Holidays will be following up with each employer individually in order of date booked to confirm travel plans. Charter flights are currently scheduled for April 15, 16 and 17.  Please be patient as there is a three-week backlog of travel arrangements to work through.

  • For anyone who has not yet booked flights:
