Rimaco Greens Inc., an Alberta AgTech company, has developed a fully sealed, pressurized greenhouse system. Rimaco Greens Inc., an Alberta-based AgTech firm, announced the launch of a fully sealed, pressurized greenhouse system.
According to a recent press release, this patent-pending solution is described as a ‘first-of its-kind, designed to create a completely isolated growing environment, using as little energy as possible for lighting, temperature, and humidity control.
Developed over seven years of self-funded research, the system maximizes the direct use of sunlight and energy while fully isolating the growing environment.
“We’ve applied advanced energy optimization techniques from the oil industry to farming,” said Ricardo Solano, CTO and co-founder of Rimaco Greens Inc, in the release.
“Our system doesn’t use traditional air conditioning or air exchanges. Instead, it controls temperature and humidity using thermal energy storage at scale with tightly integrated flows of air and water.”
Rimaco’s pilot facility, named the Energy Innovation Center, is currently in its final stages of completion and is intended to serve as the world’s first pressurized greenhouse demonstration site.
“Our vision is to give growers a solution that not only maximizes crop yield and quality but also dramatically cuts energy use and environmental impact,” said Angela Solano, Rimaco’s CEO and co-founder.
“We believe this is the future of Controlled Environment Agriculture, and we’re ready to prove it.”
