Webinar description:

As greenhouses look to reduce their energy use and policy makers address food accessibility in harsh growing climates, increasingly sophisticated technology is being developed in Canada. This webinar will explore three on-going projects at the University of Windsor.

The first project will examine the most efficient way to provide plants with an optimum growth environment while minimizing energy requirements. This will be explored through the development of a novel growth-climate energy model that links the environment immediately surrounding the individual plant to the crop canopy and to the building envelope.

The second project is aimed at helping to enable plans for a five-fold expansion of the Leamington-Kingsville greenhouse region. This will be underpinned by the development of smart low-carbon distributed energy resource networks.

The final project leverages 3D printing to develop radically new building envelopes for next-generation greenhouses custom tailored for remote regions on this planet and beyond.
