Take a virtual walk through the Keukenhof

April 28, 2020  By Greenhouse Canada

Though closed for the 2020 season, visitors can now visit the Keukenhof virtually.

‘If people cannot come to Keukenhof, we will bring Keukenhof to them,’ says the park in a release.

Each week, the international floriculture showcase will share videos of the park through their social media channels and website. Employees will show off their favourite spots.

“As of today, people can experience what it is like to walk through Keukenhof in 2020 by means of a 360-degree video of almost 9 minutes. The video shows winding paths with tulips, hyacinths and daffodils in beautiful designs. The characteristic pond and the mill are of course part of the walk.”

According to an earlier release, the Dutch government extended measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in late March. All meetings and events were to be cancelled until June 1, including those with fewer than 100 visitors.

“The fact that Keukenhof cannot open all season has a huge financial impact. There are no revenues this year while most of the costs have already been incurred. Keukenhof‘s continuity is not jeopardized. However, the loss goes further than just Keukenhof. We organize Keukenhof together with many partners. It affects not only the 1,300 temporary employees, but also people who work in  coach- and public transport, tourism and in the flower bulb and flower sector itself. In the months leading up to spring, a lot of hard work has gone into providing visitors with a beautiful experience. The park is already blooming beautifully and will become even more beautiful in the coming weeks.”
