Syngenta releases new mum catalogue

October 11, 2012  By Canadian Garden Centre & Nursery

Oct. 11, 2012 — Syngenta Flowers has released its 2013 mum catalogue, featuring eight new garden mum and six new pot mum varieties, as well as comprehensive information for growers.

The new garden mum varieties include the Chelsey family of mums, as well as two bold reds: Wanda Red and Danielle Red. The Chelsey series displays large blooms in four colours, perfect for mid-season flowering in natural-season programs.

In addition, Syngenta is expanding its pot mum collection with two new members of the Hilo family: Fuchsia and Tangerine.

“Hilo represents a breeding breakthrough with its never-before-seen colours,” said Liz Hunt, head of marketing at Syngenta Flowers. “With daisy flowers – which are the most popular flower form among consumers – in electric colours, the Hilo family will help draw a new generation of consumers to pot mums.”

Growers can also utilize the toolkit provided with the catalogue to simplify their program development, variety selection and crop production. The 2013 catalogue includes detailed resources for natural-season programs, spring programs, shaded production and more.

The 2013 poinsettia supplement spotlights three new varieties, each offering rich red bracts, deep green foliage and outstanding shelf life. Titan Red is the new go-to variety for premium sales with early-season timing, an upright habit and strong stems for medium-to-large containers. Sigma is ideal for high-density production and can help drive early-season impulse sales. Neva is a shining example of mid-season versatility, suited for 4.5 to 10 inch pots and practically every size in between. The supplement is intended to complement the 2012 GoldFisch poinsettia catalogue; no current poinsettia varieties were discontinued for 2013.

“The new mum catalogue and poinsettia supplement will give growers a more stylized look at our innovative offerings for 2013, which are specifically designed to help them generate retailer and consumer attention, and drive sales across the board,” said Hunt.
