Steady crowds at poinsettia trials open house

December 4, 2015  By Dave Harrison

Dec. 4, 2015, Beamsville, Ont. — The crowds were large and steady yesterday during the Ontario Poinsettia Cultivar Trial open house held at Linwell Gardens.

Some 160 cultivars were on display, including 73 new or numbered selections. Participating breeders included Ball, Syngenta Flowers, Beekenkamp, Selecta, Ecke Ranch and Dummen Orange.

The trials were previously held at the nearby Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.

Coordinator Wayne Brown, who retired earlier this year as the OMAFRA greenhouse floriculture specialist, welcomed the guests and outlined the trials procedures.

Linwell Gardens is one of the largest propagators of vegetative liners in Canada.

Here is our photo feature, in which we focused on the novelties.
