Rooftop growing expands in Quebec

Built on the roof of a Montreal factory in 2011, Lufa Farms’ greenhouse was a world first. In the last 10 years, they’ve expanded to two more rooftop greenhouses, offering fresh, locally grown produce directly to thousands of people in Montreal and beyond.

Their idea was to take the travel out of food production, reducing the ecological footprint by growing the food a spitting distance from the people who need it.

Their newest greenhouse covers nearly 6,000 square metres. A CFL football-sized field of hydroponic lettuce, moving on an automated grid, from seedling to maturity. | READ MORE
