PW varieties again in spotlight at famed Churchill Downs

For the second year in a row, Proven
Winners® award-winning varieties
were selected to add beauty and
colour to the grounds of Churchill Downs,
just in time for this year’s Kentucky
Derby.

John Backert, director of grounds and
facilities at Churchill Downs, has always
been a big fan of Proven Winners. “Proven
Winners plants have always performed
exceptionally well for us,” said Backert.
“They have been instrumental in helping
us beautify Churchill Downs for years. We
use Proven Winners because of their reliability,
beauty and exceptional vigour.”

Backert is often interviewed by local
news media and has always mentioned
Proven Winners plants by name.
Supertunia® Raspberry Blast brightened
the Centre Field, while Supertunia® Vista
Bubblegum and Supertunia® Royal Velvet
were featured on the wings and around the
flagpoles.

Artist® Blue Ageratum was in the
Paddock Area, while hundreds of mixed
containers will bring style and grace to the
Marquis Village and gate areas.
Large signage let Derby attendees
know specific variety information. Most
of these plants will remain in displays at
Churchill Downs all summer long.
Proven Winners also placed a full-page
ad in the official Kentucky Derby
program that is sold to thousands of
attendees during the week of the
Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks
races. PW information was also featured
in the Churchill Downs’ e-newsletter,
which is sent to thousands of consumers
prior to the Derby.
