Post-consumer container recycling proposed
Landscape Ontario (LO) is working to create the first nationwide
post-consumer horticultural plastics recycling program in the world.

Landscape Ontario (LO) is working to create the first nationwide post-consumer horticultural plastics recycling program in the world.

This is in response to the growing consumer movement to reduce the use of plastic containers. To date, water bottles and plastic bags are the most visible targets.

“As members of the green industry,” notes Landscape Ontario in a news release, “those in the horticultural trades understand the need to help the environment.”

The LO program will include plastic garden pots, trays, tags, irrigation pipes and greenhouse poly. The partnership will include recycling companies, container manufacturers, garden centres, nurseries and growers. Pots, trays and tags would be collected directly from consumers at centres across Canada.
Landscape Ontario is investigating potential funding sources for the program.

More details about the program will be available at LO’s retail trade show, Garden Expo, from Oct. 21–22 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
