Sept. 26, 2012 — EARS Plant Photosynthesis Monitoring is launching the miniPPM, a handy plant photosynthesis meter for gardeners, growers and extension workers.
The photosynthesis measurement is based on chlorophyll fluorescence, a very weak optical signal emitted by the plant. It is invisible to the human eye, but can be picked up by the instrument and accurately measured to give an indication of the plant's condition and growth.
The miniPPM can help a grower determine whether a weed is dying, or if additional herbicide application is needed. In greenhouse horticulture, the miniPPM can assess if the crop is stressed due to excess light or water shortage.
