Orangeline dominates REACH pepper category

June 19, 2016  By Orangeline Farms

June 14, 2016, Leamington, Ont. – Over the past weekend a distinguished panel of judges gathered to taste the very best from the Leamington region. This area is referred to as “Produce County” by some of the locals.

The ninth annual Greenhouse Competition at the Leamington Fair, hosted by REACH International, featured a blind taste test for vegetables’ Big Three – cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. With subcategories including colour, sweetness, heat and size, the event attracted over 200 entries of the finest local greenhouse produce.

The gates opened Friday and in came the “foodies” – experts, connoisseurs and stewards of fine produce, along with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). They were all ready, set and hungry to judge.

From there it was turned over to the community at large to vote for their favourites, aptly named The People’s Choice Awards – the most coveted of all.

Orangeline Farms™, along with its Zing! Healthy Foods™ brand, delivered the team’s finest and waited patiently. The ballots were cast and the awards were presented in 10 categories for the Perfect Pepper. Orangeline won a total of seven awards, five gold and two bronze.

Of those awards:

• Four were in the bell pepper category with their signature Red, Orange, Brown and Yellow varieties.

• First place honours in the Specialty Mini Pepper division.

• First in the Specialty Long with their ever popular Super Sweet Shepherds.

• Kids’ Choice Pepper was awarded to Orangeline’s Yellow Bell Pepper.

All in all, a sweet victory on a hot day.

“It’s what drives us and compels us to continue our journey, to be the brand people think of when making healthy choices,” said Jordan Kniaziew, vice-president of sales and marketing. “These awards reaffirm our passion and dedication to offer consumers our finest, and that’s the best prize of all.”
