Jan. 15, 2013, Leamington, Ont. — The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) are launching a campaign to promote that fresh, Ontario greenhouse-grown cucumbers are available now.

Ontario greenhouse cucumbers are unique because they are virtually “always in season” and have a 12-month production span. This provides consumers with fresh, local produce year-round.

“There’s no need for consumers to wait until summer to add local cucumbers to their salad,” said OGVG general manager George Gilvesy. “Consumers can find fresh, locally grown Ontario greenhouse cucumbers in grocery stores throughout Ontario.”

OGVG is supporting in-store sampling in Sobeys and Loblaws stores over the next two months. Store locations and dates of in-store sampling are updated regularly on the OGVG website.

In addition, OGVG will be running radio tags and has developed point-of-sale material to support this initiative.

If you are having trouble finding Ontario greenhouse grown cucumbers, OGVG suggests asking your local produce manager.

Look for all greenhouse products to be in production in just a few months. Salads with local ingredients will be even easier to make in early March, when Ontario greenhouse tomatoes and bell peppers are back in production.
