Summit focus is on rooftop farming

Aug. 1, 2012, Toronto — “Cities have the ability to grow millions of pounds of food each year for a multitude of benefits,” says Steven W. Peck, founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.

“Engineers, landscape architects, architects and urban farmers are converting rooftops for food production using a variety of new technologies that we will explore at the Urban Agriculture Summit.”

The conference will be held in Toronto from Aug. 15-18. Featured will be visionaries and entrepreneurs from throughout North America who are leading the way and creating the business of city-based rooftop commercial food production.

Ben Flanner, head farmer and president of Brooklyn Grange (New York). His success at two successful commercial rooftop farms (Brooklyn Grange and Eagle Street Rooftop Farms) has led to him being considered one of North America’s rooftop urban agriculture leaders.
Kurt D. Lynn, vice-president and co-founder of Lufa Farms (Montreal), Canada’s first commercial scale rooftop greenhouse, which exceeded its production goals and is meeting its financial targets.
Paul Lightfoot, CEO of BrightFarms. This company finances, builds, and operates greenhouse farms at supermarkets (including Whole Foods and A&P), cutting time, distance and cost from the produce supply chain.
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is a membership-based industry association developing the green (vegetative) roof and wall industry in North America.
