Searching for next year’s top garden performers?

Aug. 20, 2014, Milton, ON — Want to see how the plantings of annuals,
perennials, vegetables and hardy roses have fared during this year’s
growing season?

Decide for yourself which cultivars will do best during the 2015
gardening season at the Landscape Ontario / Ontario Parks / University
of Guelph trial gardens open house and tour on Aug. 21.

There are two trial gardens, one at the Landscape Ontario Horticultural
Trades Association grounds in Milton (7856 Fifth Line South), and the
second at the University of Guelph (at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute at
328 Victoria Road South).

• 9 a.m. – Opening remarks by Lee Ann Knudsen of Landscape Ontario.
• 9:15 a.m. – “New Rose Release Pending for Ontario’s Landscape
  Industry,” presented by John Bakker of Bakker & Sons, and Dr. Rumen
  Conev of the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.
• 9:45 a.m. – “Syngenta’s Look at New Plant Material for the Landscape,” presented Terry Talsman of Syngenta.
• 10:15 a.m. – “High Impact Horticulture in High Traffic Areas,”
  presented by Mary Battaglia, manager of field services / parks, and Judy
  Aldham, supervisor of turf and horticulture, both with the City of
  Burlington.
• 10:45 a.m. – closing remarks and introduction to the 2014 Trial
  Gardens, presented by Rodger Tschanz of the University of Guelph.
• 11 to noon – Tour of the Trial Gardens, led by Tschanz.
• Presentation of the winning OPA Garden Photo Entries.

The program moves to the University of Guelph Trial Garden in the
afternoon, from 1-3. The trials are at the Turfgrass Institute.
