Premier expands N.B. peat processing plant

Sept. 17, 2013, Rexton, N.B. – Premier Tech today unveiled some of the
newest technologies in the sphagnum peat moss industry with the opening
of its newly expanded facilities here.

Sept. 17, 2013, Rexton, N.B. – Premier Tech today unveiled some of the newest technologies in the sphagnum peat moss industry with the opening of its newly expanded facilities here.

The expansion and modernization of the plant follows the signing of a financial partnership agreement with Invest New Brunswick, for an amount totalling up to $1 million (Cdn), and of a refundable loan of up to $1.5 million from the federal government through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

Attending the ceremony were Premier David Alward and Claude Williams, minister of transportation and infrastructure.

Representing a total investment of $5 million, the new facility will allow the deployment of manufacturing and commercial strategies while increasing the company’s sphagnum peat moss reserves in Eastern Canada.

Thirty-three new jobs were created.

Premier Tech Horticulture ranks among the North American leaders in production and distribution of value-added peat-based products.

The company is an active player and leader in the Canadian and international movement towards responsible management of peatlands.

The company operates 10 plants and 20 peat moss harvesting sites in Canada.
