Feb. 15, Langley, B.C., (CNW) - Bevo Farms Ltd., a subsidiary of Bevo Agro Inc., has negotiated a new credit facility totalling $24 million with Farm Credit Canada (FCC).
It was indeed a special year in 2007 for industry veteran Allen Monsma. He celebrated nearly 50 years of involvement in various capacities of the greenhouse and nursery trade.
The Ontario greenhouse industry has expressed its appreciation for the government of Ontario decision to provide support to producers in the sector.
Sarah Ryall, co-owner of Delta’s Gipaanda Greenhouses, is the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Resource Women of Honour Awards for Agriculture.
André Mousseau, the province’s leading cactus producer, was awarded the 2005 Prix Croissance during last fall’s Ornamental Horticulture Trade Show in Saint-Hyacinthe. He is a visionary and developer who has contributed significantly to the expansion and recognition of the industry in Québec.

Last year, Sawaya Garden Trials debuted a contest for combination hanging baskets. Attendees voted for their favourites. The combinations were put together by different growers and grown the whole summer at the trials location.
The story of Allen Monsma is very much the story of the greenhouse industry and technology change in the last half century. Monsma is this year’s recipient of the Grower Of The Year award from Essex County Growers. The award is being presented later this month during the Bounty Of The County trade show and conference in Leamington.

Pete Hendriksen has been appointed North American sales manager for Hoogendoorn Growth Management North America.  Company director Peter van Duijn made the announcement earlier this fall.
It was another award-winning year for a number of participants in this year’s Canadian Greenhouse Conference. And for four delegates, it was an especially profitable experience. About 2,400 people attended this year’s show, again held at the Toronto International Centre. The pre-conference bus tours – one flower, one vegetable – were sold out, with waiting lists for both.
