New site to monitor nutrition of floriculture crops

February 15, 2018  By Greenhouse Canada

There’s a new online resource filled with nutritional benchmarks and sampling procedures for floriculture crops.

Launched by e-GRO, the mobile-friendly website currently offers nutritional factsheets for seven annual bedding plants, including marigolds, geraniums, petunias, calibrachoa, gerberas, New Guinea impatiens and dahlias. Information on perennials, potted flower plants, as well as edible and herb crops still to come.

Looking to review or make sure your monitoring procedures are up to par? There are how-to videos and guides on the PourThru method online, with saturated media extraction and 1:2 dilution methods to come. Sampling procedures for annual bedding plants, perennial plants, plugs, liners, flats, pots and hanging baskets will also be added.

Led by researchers at Michigan State University and North Carolina State University, the site will provide crop-specific resources to help growers monitor the nutrition of their floriculture crops. Look for tips on maintaining optimal fertility, pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and recognizing nutrient disorders.
