New grower training program launched

March 23, 2013, Ridgetown, Ont. — Career opportunities in Ontario’s greenhouse sector are continuing to grow at a quick pace.

March 23, 2013, Ridgetown, Ont. — Career opportunities in Ontario’s greenhouse sector are continuing to grow at a quick pace.

In response, the Ridgetown Campus of the Ontario Agriculture College has developed a new academic program to address the need for trained growers and assistant growers, as well as additional professional jobs in this expanding global agribusiness market.

The first session of the 16-month program will start in September. The new program offers two academic semesters combined with two industry work-placement semesters. Applicants must have completed a recognized degree or diploma in science or a closely related discipline, or have significant industry experience.

Those interested are encouraged to apply to Ontario Colleges at www.ontariocolleges.ca as soon as possible.
