New elements added to CanWest Show

Along with the same great trade show, seminar program, new products display area and bus tour attractions, this year’s CanWest Hort Show has added a few new wrinkles. The show, now in its 26th year, is held at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre. Show dates are Sept. 12-13, with bus tours on Sept. 14. Making their debut next month are:

The show, now in its 26th year, is held at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre. Show dates are Sept. 12-13, with bus tours on Sept. 14. Making their debut next month are:

• Bookstore & Cappuccino Bar: Pick up the latest horticulture book while enjoying a latte.

• Happy Hour: This social event will be held from 4-6 on the first day of the show.

• Silent Auction: Up for grabs will be many exciting products donated by exhibitors. Some of the proceeds will go to horticulture scholarships and show development. Seminars will be held the mornings of Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, along with a special Thursday afternoon session. The topics include: Structural Pruning of Young Trees, plus Establishing Nursery Trees in the Landscape, by Dr. Larry Costello, University of California. Brilliant Customer Service, plus Pop the Garlic: Fast Track Training for Prioritizing, Organizing and Getting Things Done, by Lorna McLaren, McLaren Formula Training, Kelowna, B.C. Garden Magic With Foliage, Trees and Shrubs, by Chris Hansen, director of new product development, Terra Nova Nurseries, Canby, Oregon. Landscape Design Trends for the New Century: Unique Perspectives from the UK, by Sally Gregson, Mill Cottage Plants, Somerset, England. The New Marketing Peril: Learn What Not to Ignore When Developing a Marketing Program, by Robert Hendrickson, The Garden Centre Group, Ellicott City, Maryland. Sustainability and the Landscape Business, by Owen Dell, Country Landscape & Design, Santa Barbara, California.
