April 7, 2016, Simcoe, Ont. — Encouraged by last year’s registrations, Greenhouse Canada is hosting its second annual webinar series beginning in May.

Last year’s series topics included Lean management principles in horticulture, a presentation on California Spring Trials highlights, and a session on LEDs in greenhouse horticulture.

Attendees were drawn from across North America for the Lean and Spring Trials webinars, and indeed worldwide for the LED session.

This year’s topics will include medical marijuana, IPM and thrips, and succession planning. Each webinar will last about 60 minutes, including about 20 minutes of questions. Registration is free and pre-registration is required.

Editor Dave Harrison will be the moderator. Click here for the webinar microsite.

This webinar will be held on Thursday, May 19, at 2 p.m. ET. The business opportunities becoming available as a result of the push to legalize large-scale marijuana cultivation are globally significant. This webinar provides a look into the state of the industry, as well as opportunities and obstacles that face both new and seasoned cannabis growers and investors.

Industry expert Michael Camplin from GGS Structures will lead this webinar, and will provide his insights as both an advisor and solutions provider of structures and growing systems for numerous licensed large-scale cannabis producers in Canada and the U.S.

The webinar is sponsored by Fafard and Gavita Horticultural Lighting.

Leading this presentation will be Dr. Sarah Jandricic, the floriculture IPM specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). The webinar will be held June 23.

A native of Southern Ontario, she has conducted research in greenhouse floriculture crops since 2003.
She got her start in greenhouse pest management during her masters degree at the University of Guelph. There, she tested the compatibility of the beneficial beetle Atheta coriaria with nematodes and soil-applied pesticides for fungus gnat control. Her research was partly funded by Flowers Canada (Ontario), and she served an internship there in 2004.

After her degree, she spent two years working for the Niagara-based pest management consulting company Eco Habitat Agri Services, collaborating with growers on research projects such as trap plants for Western flower thrips.

Sarah obtained her PhD from Cornell University in 2013, and has been working with OMAFRA since January 2015.

The webinar will provide the latest news on control measures for thrips.
