Major garden trials open house on Friday

Aug. 12, 2013, Milton and Guelph, Ont. — Two major Ontario trial gardens
will be showcased this Friday (Aug. 16) featuring plant material from
21 leading breeders.

Aug. 12, 2013, Milton and Guelph, Ont. — Two major Ontario trial gardens will be showcased this Friday (Aug. 16) featuring plant material from 21 leading breeders.

The annual open house is hosted by Landscape Ontario, the University of Guelph, and the Ontario Parks Association.

The morning tour will be held at Landscape Ontario at 7856 Fifth Line South in Milton, just minutes off the 401. Included will be educational sessions from 9 to 10:30:

• Using New Plant Material in Container Design, led by Paul Zammit of the Toronto Botanical Garden.

• Living with Impatiens Downy Mildew, featuring updates and a discussion with industry specialists.

• Highlights of the trial gardens, led by Rodger Tschanz of the University of Guelph.

Tours of the Landscape Ontario garden will follow from 10:30 to noon.

AFTERNOON AT UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH

In the afternoon, the focus switches to the Guelph Trial Garden at the Turfgrass Institute (328 Victoria Rd. South, at College Avenue) in Guelph (from 1:30 to 3). Attendees must provide their own transportation from Milton to Guelph.

The Guelph garden also includes a section for the All-America Selections flower and bedding plants trial program, and a trial for the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers.
