organization of the Parkinson Society of Canada.
The eighth annual Garden Centre Group Co-operative Trade Show, held last fall in Toronto, generated over $40,000 for the national organization of the Parkinson Society of Canada.
Industry members from across Canada were represented at the unique two-day event that combined business and social activities with a substantial fund-raising effort, states a press release.
In the true spirit of co-operation and teamwork, the garden centre group members, wholesale suppliers and many volunteers contributed to the significant success of the various events which included a silent auction, bus tour, dinner event along with the trade show itself.
Dedicated volunteers from the Parkinson Society attend the trade show each year, renewing relationships and reaching out with a message of hope. Parkinson’s Disease is a chronic, progressive, neurological disorder, which affects over 100,000 Canadians. The society is a source of advocacy, research and support and has as its symbol, the tulip, as an enduring international symbol of horticulture.
Parkinson Society volunteers, Robert and Sylvia McNutt, were presented with a cheque for $40,000 by Frank and Ginny Uhran from The Vista MacDowkin Group of Insurance Brokers. The company was instrumental in the raising of the money. According to Ginny Uhran, “the trade show is all about teamwork, relationships and working together for this important cause. Vista MacDowkin is really pleased to be a part of it.”
