July 19, 2012, Manitowoc, WI — The effects of biofilm on irrigation systems, mechanical equipment and plant health are addressed in a new white paper by Dramm.

Biofilm is present in every water system. Every pipe, filter, pump, tank and nozzle in a greenhouse is contaminated with biofilm.

In addition to causing clogging in drip emitters, filters, nozzles and other irrigation equipment, biofilm can harbour pathogens, acting as an incubator that easily distributes harmful bacteria, fungus and viruses directly to plants.

Dramm produces handwatering tools, irrigation systems, chemical application systems, environmental control products, organic fertilizers and consumer gardening tools.
