Cost-share funding intake announced for Ontario

The next intake for the Canadian Agricultural Partnership cost-share funding program for Ontario will open January 8, 2020 and close on January 29, 2020.

For Ontario greenhouse growers, there are key project categories around pest management and labour. As well, there are multiple food safety and traceability categories of interest, particularly in light of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations being phased in.

Nutrient Recovery from Wastewater/Washwater: Projects will focus on responsible water and nutrient management through the use of nutrient recovery systems for greenhouses, nursery, dairy and poultry operations, and fruit and vegetable washing facilities (30% cost-share, $25,000 project cap)

Technology and Equipment to Improve Labour Productivity: Projects focused on the execution of a comprehensive plan to implement new and novel technologies and equipment to enhance labour productivity (25% cost-share, $100,000 project cap)

Planning for Increased Labour Productivity: Projects to conduct assessments and audits, and develop plans to measure improvements in labour productivity. (50% cost-share, $15,000 project cap)

Develop New Products or Processes: Projects focused on developing products or processes to significantly increase sales and support retention of an existing market, grow an existing market or access a new market (50% cost-share, $15,000 project cap)

Plant Pest Monitoring and Management Tools and Equipment: Projects focused on reducing biosecurity risks into, out of and within high-risk areas of plant operations, in a measurable or proven way, through incorporating tools and equipment for monitoring, management and treatment into plant health biosecurity plans to prevent, identify and limit the introduction and spread of pests. (35% cost-share, $25,000 project cap)

Preventing Introduction and Spread of Pests Through Isolation, Sanitation and Controlling Work Flow: Projects focused on reducing biosecurity risks into, out of and within high-risk areas of plant operations, in a measurable or proven way, with regards to workflow, sanitation or the ability to isolate material. (35% cost-share, $50,000 project cap)

Food Safety and Traceability System Improvements: Projects to support food safety and traceability system development, implementation, or improvements through: writing systems to a recognized standard, equipment purchases, facility upgrades, validation studies as well as initial food safety certification to recognized/international standards. (50% cost-share, $60,000 project cap)

Traceability Equipment (Food Safety): Projects to support the purchase, installation or upgrading of equipment that is directly related to the implementation or improvement of traceability systems. (35% cost-share, $10,000 project cap)

Food Safety Equipment: Projects to support the purchase of equipment designed to eliminate or reduce food safety risk and hazards. (35% cost-share, $10,000 project cap)

Food Safety and Traceability: Projects to support food safety or traceability training from a qualified third party to increase knowledge and adoption of recognized food safety or traceability systems. (45% cost-share, $1,500 project cap)

Food Safety and Traceability Gap Assessment and Pre-audit: Projects to support gap assessments and pre-audits by a qualified third party against internationally or nationally recognized programs to advance food safety or traceability systems. (45% cost-share, $2,000 project cap)
